Make the perfect martini

A perfect mix
The perfect way to make a martini is a hotly debated topic. The perfect mix can easily apply to just about any cocktail; not only a martini. You should seek not only to create a martini cocktail full of flavor, but also a martini that looks wonderful--which requires an excellent presentation of beautiful martini glasses and a perfect cocktail shaker. Technically speaking, a martini that is made with only gin, or only vodka, cannot truly be called a martini. Gin is a earthy, savory spirit that is a balance of many unique flavors. One of the notes in both Gin and Vodka is a tang of sharpness that comes from alcohol; which isn't as much a flavor as it is a texture. In addition, a well made gin will be full with a blend of spicy botanical flavors that play a complimentary role to the alcohol. While the precise flavors used in any gin is a closely guarded secret, all gins will include juniper as one of their primary flavors. Together, the alcohol and the botanicals form a spicy, sharp, savory and always unique flavor experience. Vermouth also embodies a blend of various botanical and herbal flavors, but instead of being sharp, earthy and spicy like gin, it is mellow and understated. Together these two ingredients mingle very well, meeting at a balance point that isn't too sharp, or too mellow—but serve to complete the perfect puzzle of an excellent martini. We would also suggest the perfect compliment of some wonderful martini glass rim sugar!

The Secret Revealed
Want to learn the secret of a perfect martini? You must to use quality ingredients, including just enough dry vermouth to carefully round out the tang of the gin, but not so much that the drink takes on a true “flavor” from including too much vermouth. The third important (and often under played) ingredient in a martini is water. The water is becomes one with a martini from the ice that is used in the process of shaking, stirring or both. The role of the water in any cocktail is to incorporate and calm the flavors. This step in making a martini is critically important for creating a cocktail that is delicious and mellow. If the ultimate goal is to make a martini to impress your guests—and your own taste, then we’d also assert that practice makes perfect.
It is important to remember that the real perfect martini is one that pleases you! Experiment, have fun, and most of all…please drink responsibly.
